The Government of India and the Ministry of Railways had set up Railway Recruitment Board much earlier in India for the purpose of governing the proper recruitment of efficient professional technical as well as non – technical staff to streamline all the hectic and important tasks related to management, controlling, maintenance, supervision, etc. of the Indian Railway system. In the year 1985, in the month of January, the Railway Service Commission was given the new name of Railway Recruitment Board or RRBs. Following this, after 13 years, in the year 1998, all the RRBs in India were brought under the Railway Recruitment Control Board or RRCB’s control. This RRCB was established in the Ministry of Railways for the task of coordinating as well as streamlining the way and procedure of work processes undertaken by all the RRBs.

Railway Recruitment Board in India
The Ministry of Railways and the Government of India have established Railway Recruitment Board at different locations in different states in India. There are the RRB of Kolkata in West Bengal, RRB of Bhubaneswar in Orissa, RRB of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, RRB of Mumbai in Maharashtra, RRB of Trivandrum in Kerala, etc. These are all reputed RRBs in India and they undertake several important and specific procedures for recruitment of officials in the Indian Railway System.
Some of these RRBs with their functionalities are stated here.
RRB Bhopal – The Railway Recruitment Board of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh was set up in the year 1982 and is charged with the duty of carrying out the procedure of recruiting individuals for the posts of “Group C” for the office of the Headquarters in Jabalpur and the West Central Railway divisions at Bhopal.
RRB Trivandrum – In the year 1983, in the month of March, the RRB was established at Trivandrum. All the requirements of recruitment in the vacancies at posts of “Group C” and “Group D” in Trivandrum, Madurai and also Palghat divisions of Indian Southern Railway are looked after and managed by this RRB. The chairman of this reputed RRB is Neenu Ittyerah. Applicants applying for the mentioned vacancies at these posts and getting selected by the RRB through a plethora of steps, are liable to be offered posting at any location under Southern Railway.
Apart from the mentioned ones there are other RRBs at different parts in India and their method of functioning is by and far, on the similar verge.
Recruitment Process in RRBs
In the process of selection of candidates in RRB Bhopal, applicants who are eligible are summoned by this RRB by means of the “Employment News”, which is a process that has recently been introduced online on the internet. After scrutiny, candidates who are eligible have to appear for an examination of written pattern. On passing the preliminary exam, successful candidates are next summoned to appear for the main important examination. After this, the candidates, on passing this stage may or may not require to give some tests on typing or other skill tests as needed, depending on categories. Next, the details of the candidate are properly verified, background check, etc. are done and after passing the final stage, which is a medical examination held by the Railways, the candidates will be appointed at the prestigious posts.
Also, a kind of similar process, though differing in just some steps, is followed at Railway Recruitment Board Bhubaneswar or at RRB Trivandrum or even at the other RRBs in India as mentioned earlier.
